The Standing By Words Center’s mission is to promote creative and explorative thinking on how people can best live together in the community they inhabit. This purpose rests on the recognition that there are tensions between human, social and economic systems as well as between the variety of natural and ecological systems of the earth. We will work to fulfill our mission by integrating the perspectives of the arts, humanities and sciences in specific programs, publications and events that focus on Iowa and areas within Midwestern states.

We’ve been presenting the popular Harvest Lecture since 1998. And we are begining a new spring, story telling event Sprout Talking this year.
